While their adults selves may tell a different story, for now, three and a half month old Cheetah cub, Ruuxa, and his female puppy companion, Raina, are wrestling, running and playing together at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The two pups have been raised together as ambassador animals. Ambassador cheetahs are paired with dogs to provide companionship and help them stay calm in public settings. Ruuxa was paired with Raina after the cheetah’s mother rejected the young pup.

“So we’re here at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park giving an update on our brand new cheetah and dog pair, Raina and Ruuxa. They’re three and a half months old, they’re training, doing great, growing fast. Lots of exciting things in their future,” says Larissa Comb, senior animal trainer, San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The young ambassadors have been raised in the Safari park animal care center but the pair will move to a permanent new home behind the scenes at Benbough Amphitheater on Friday August 22.
