-An abandoned dog is being hailed as a hero after he used a persistent bark to lead passersby to a litter of ten sick, newborn puppies and their exhausted mother.
All ten pups and mom survived thanks to the actions of the stray dog, who’s since been named, fittingly, “Hero.”
Marina Tarashevsce, an animal rescuer with Dallas Dogrrr – Rescue, Rehab, Reform, spoke to Anna Kooiman on “Fox and Friends Weekend” about how Hero saved the day.
“When I got there in the evening, Hero was barking really loudly,” Tarashevsce said. “And it wasn’t just a regular bark. He just wouldn’t stop and it sounded like he was in distress of some sort.”
Tarashevsce said that she always saw Hero with another dog, Mona, so she thought that something must be wrong with Hero’s friend.
“I had suspected that [Mona was] pregnant, so that’s why I followed him. I still can’t believe it, that he actually led me to the puppies. But I’m so thankful because we wouldn’t have found them otherwise.”
Tarashevsce revealed that she was with a dog behaviorist, John Miller, who immediately knew that they had to follow Hero.
As she and Miller would get closer to Hero, he would move farther away and continue barking, as if saying, “Keep coming this way.”
“He led us right to the puppies. He led us to a creek by the woods. And we heard little yelping of the puppies, so this is how we found them.”
Tarashevsce added that the puppies are doing great. They are with their mother and Hero in a foster home, so they all get to stick together.
The animal rescue group hopes to find homes for the puppies once they’re weaned from their mother.
